Fly Tyer Forum Rules and Guidelines

We will make every effort to keep our forums respectful, pleasant, and enjoyable for all members and guests. In order to preserve those efforts, we have established a set of rules and guidelines for members to abide by. Please read the following Rules and Guidelines before posting.


We respect the enjoyment of our forum community by all of the members. Since some members are less offended than others when it comes to profanity, in order to keep conversation and dialogue on a level field, members must keep the conversation at a PG-13 level of communication. We all know (or should know) what extreme profanity consists of, none of it will not be tolerated. Vulgar language constitutes the use of any offensive, discriminatory, derogatory or otherwise inappropriate material including the posting of any pornographic material, (including avatars). Any Inappropriate language will be edited, all inappropriate material will be deleted and users will be warned. Repeating offenders will lose their site privileges.

Personal Attacks (Flaming / Bashing)

Maintaining a positive, friendly atmosphere is a high priority in the Fly Tyer Forums. Therefore, no personal attacks, insults or deliberate malicious comments will be tolerated. There are times when topics are debated and discussions may become heated: however difference of opinion is not an excuse to resort to verbal attacks or insults. There is a difference between a passionate, respectful discussion and one that delves into personal conflict. When discussing any issue, please debate the points of the actual issues, not individuals. Once the line is crossed, the discussion may be locked by the moderating team and all offending parties will be warned. Repeat violators risk losing their site privileges.


If you have something to post, and you’re not sure which topic it belongs under, please do not post it under multiple topics. If the administrators or moderators agree it would fit better in another location, it will be moved there. Duplicate threads only serve to create confusion.

Trolling / Baiting

Posting of provocative, outrageous, messages in an effort to get an adverse reaction from others, (i.e. “trolling or baiting”) will not be tolerated. First time offenders will be asked to retract/delete such posts. Repeat violators will lose their site privileges. If it is abundantly clear that a user has no intention of contributing to any of the topic discussions in a positive manner, or that he/she has an abrasive or combative attitude, they will lose their site privileges. Users must demonstrate an interest in contributing to fly tying or fly fishing discussions, as this is a fly fishing and fly tying site. In other words, users who wish to do nothing but argue politics or other non-fly fishing issues may wish to seek another forum for those discussions.


We make every effort to screen Initial accounts from spam bots. However in the event something slips by, any posts identified as unsolicited SPAM and not pertaining to the forum topics will be deleted. Any post that is considered bulk advertising or SPAM for one’s self-interests will fall under this scrutiny. Please report any posts that seem questionable to the Moderators.

Self Promotion

While you are allowed to promote your web site(s) in your post signature, posting continuous links to any web sites you run for a business will be treated like SPAM. In addition, users are prohibited to post any kind of affiliate program link with referrer IDs. Accounts created with the sole intention to self-promote and not to participate in the community posts will be treated as SPAM.

Commercial Advertising

Commercial Advertising is prohibited in Forum Posts. Questions or clarification of what can and cannot be posted on the Forum should be directed to the forum Moderators. Please contact for details and advertising opportunities.

Signature Rules

A typical signature may contain the poster’s name, e-mail address, website, and/or a favorite quote or saying. Font sizes are preset for your signature, larger sizes may be reduced. Members with inappropriate signatures will be warned and their signature will be removed until they acknowledge this guideline. Repeat violators risk losing their site privileges.

Multiple Accounts per Individual Are Not Permitted

If you forget your password, please use the password recovery tool (, to have your password reset. However this will require that you have access to the e-mail account associated with your membership. If you are still unable to login, please contact the administrator.

Administrators and Moderators

All posts are read by our Administration and Moderators in an effort to maintain a friendly enjoyable site. Please direct any problems or complaints to the Moderators, not to the message boards. All issues will be addressed, considered objectively and appropriate actions will be taken. We reserve the right to ban flagrant offenders when deemed necessary. Administrators and Moderators have the final word.
